President Kaye reported that she and Dan met with City of Kalamunda regarding Stirk Park Playground development. Club hope to get naming rights and assistance with promotion. Nature Play and Skate Sculpture will be helping with design. The City hope to get $3million grant from Lotterywest. Sheryl reported that June markets had a few new Stallholders and many visitors. The Market Website designer has been asked to update the Kalamunda Rotary website. President Elect Liam reminded members to respond re attendance for Changeover Night by that night. He met with Rotaract President Elect Liam Whiting with a view to do more joint Projects this year. A joint Sundowner will be organised soon to meet our fellow Rotaracters. Guest speaker Penny Webb CEO of Starting Over Support. This organisation had its beginnings in 1983 as People Who Care. Originally it was involved in helping with gardening etc for mainly seniors. It gradually increased its involvement with Aged Care, Emergency Relief and now Starting Over Support. The client group are identified through agencies eg St. Barts, Women's Refuge . Regarding Women's Refuge, 50% are Aboriginal, 50% 14 to 18 yr olds with small children. Starting Over Support helps these disadvantaged people who have no possessions or financial means to set up their new home by providing furniture, whitegoods and essential household items. The organization has 2 trucks to collect and distribute the goods. In May it had 98 pickups and 40 families were able to step into fully furnished homes. 70% recipients are female 30% male, all victims from one or more of family violence, elder abuse or homelessness.
