Rotary Foundation
We welcomed Greg Thurston the District Foundation Chair to our meeting.
The Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational and cultural exchange programs. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions.
The Foundation was created in 1917 by Rotary International's sixth president, Arch C. Klumph, as an endowment fund for Rotary "to do good in the world." It has grown from an initial contribution of US$26.50 to more than US$1billion. It has one of the largest and most prestigious international fellowship programs in the world.

The Foundation is supporting a variety of projects, such as Eradication of Polio, Vocational Training, Scholarships and World peace, it does that with supporting global and district grants and disaster appeals

Following are the Areas of Focus:

District Grants are funded through donations that came from people and organisations within our District. Once funds have been received by the Rotary Foundation, they will be invested for three years to cover administration costs. After that period of time, the District is credited with funds for re-investments into projects, supporting above areas of focus through Global or District Grants.

Global Grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary's above mentioned Areas of Focus, by working together to respond to real community needs, clubs and districts strengthen their global partnerships;  where as District Grants are available to Clubs each year to fund small-scale, short term activities that address needs in our communities and communities abroad. Grant funding will be to a maximum of a dollar for every dollar contributed by the Rotary Club.
Application for Grants will need to be submitted by the 31st of May each year.

Rotary Australia is very proud to have one of only five Universities worldwide located in Brisbane, that is offering the Rotary Peace Fellow Scholars to earn a master's degree in international studies and peace and conflict studies. If a club can identify a student following these topics, they should encourage the person to apply for this valuable $50,000 scholarship.

The Polio Eradication Program has been going for 35 years. The complete eradication is incredibly difficult, and unfortunately 5 new cases were identified in 2021 on the Afghan/Pakistan Border.
