Rotary District Conference 2022 - Take Aways
Thanks to everyone who came along to the livestream of the Conference today. Terrific and insightful sessions and lots to think about for Rotary and our Club.
Great job Dee, Ric, Ziska and et al in putting it all together. Matt did a fantastic job and has now secured his role as MC for all events going forward.
Quick capture of my thoughts about some potential projects and opportunities that the Club might consider based on what we heard today.
  1. If the Club progresses the Lembongan micro-financing project is there an opportunity to do something similar in remote communities / with aboriginal business?
  2. Aboriginal Youth Leadership Program (incl. RYPEN / RYLEAP)
  3. Aboriginal Language Program
  4. Recommit to university scholarship program incl. additional commitment to aboriginal students (Braden Hill noted $1,500 / term makes a huge difference)
  5. Get in touch with Jody Nunn as guest speaker for an Alumni event for the scholarship winners and exchange students last ten years. See how whether we can recruit them back to Rotary / Rotaract / community service.
  6. Rotary Branding – should. Rotary brand itself a “Reconciliation Ally”
  7. Circulate link to (click on the name) Home - Uluru Statement from the Heart to club members. How can we raise awareness of this to a  wider audience.
  8. Adopt acknowledgement of Country at Club meetings
  9. Lin in with District to understand what it is doing in this space
  10. Observatory Project – is there a next phase we can participate in that builds on the Aboriginal story
  11. Revisit the St Brigids boarder proposal (Sheryl)
  12. Is there a Timor Leste style program we can develop that focus on working with Aboriginal communities
  13. Rotary Aboriginal Reference Group (click on the following link) Aboriginal Community - Rotary Districts 9455 & 9465 - Aboriginal Reference Group (rotaryarg.org.au)
